About the Artworks

Bloody Poppies

Bloody Poppies was inspired by the opium/drug trade in Afghanistan and ensuing battles to control the drug trade as well as control over the poppy fields. I remember growing up in India and having poppies in my garden. I saw them just as flowers and still do. But the story in Afghanistan is not as innocent and hence the name 'Bloody Poppies'.

Cry Me a River

‘Cry Me a River’ is an attempt to capture the longing of the soul of the desert. It is the wish of the desert that the vast sky sheds its tears, a silent plea to save the shrubs and creatures of these parched lands, for the dying can only be saved once they sky cries its heart out.

The parallel philosophical meaning, this painting portrays, is the cry of one’s soul to be one with the creator.
